What is Apple Butter?

Making apple butter is a fairly labor-intensive process. First you must boil a lot of apples to soften them. Then you peel them and then press the rest of the pulp through a sieve to remove the seeds, etc. Then comes the fun part. You combine the pulp and some spices, (such as cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, etc), and sugar and/or apple cider and you boil this down until it has a thick, spreadable texture.

Apple butter has a dark color, especially when compared to apple sauce, because the mixture boils long enough that the sugars caramalize.

One thing we do know is that apple butter is very tasty.
